Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. She aspired to be a professional dancer but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. Once I surpassed my male counterparts then I stopped. Many dancers make the transition into acting. As for Bruce, it was her drama instructor who pushed her in that direction. Her teacher suggested she audition for the role of Anne in their annual school production. She tried out and ended up playing the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. In the past 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her role as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast during Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
